There is a Petition in Quebec to Cancel Legault’s Mandatory Mask Wearing

As the new rules of mandatory mask-wearing takes effect in days, a petition to cancel it is circulating. So far, more than 55,000 people have signed it.

In an effort to restart the economy and avoid another shutdown, the Legault government put in place a face mask rule that starts on July 18, requiring mandatory face mask-wearing in indoor public place in the province.

Studies have shown that mask wearing is an effective measure that could limit COVID-19 from spreading.

Although studies from 16 different countries found that masks reduce the risk of contracting COVID-19, people oppose the mandate for different reasons like freedom of rights, the effectiveness, and doubts related to the virus’s deadliness.

Premier Legault made masks mandatory for anyone 12 years and older in public spaces. Businesses could be fined up to $6000 for serving customers not wearing masks.
