Santa Claus is coming to town! Like every year, the city’s downtown streets will be flooded by people of all ages to watch the Santa Claus parade Montreal 2018 event of the year. Le Defile du Pere-Noel, in French is in its 68th edition.
All You Need to Know about the Santa Claus Parade Montreal 2018 Free Event
The annual Santa Claus parade will take place on Saturday, November 17, beginning at 11:00 AM on the corner of Fort and Ste. Catherine streets.
Santa and all his helpers will ride along Ste. Catherine Street until St. Urbain Street.
The annual event grows each year, aiming to satisfy spectators who come from all over town to see the remarkable and enchanting Christmas parade. The celebration marks the beginning of the holiday season right in the heart of downtown Montreal.
What to Expect at the Parade
It’s not just an event, it’s a tradition for thousands of Montrealers who wait anxiously for the over 20 floats and tons of talented musicians and dancers, artists and street performers who come together to put on one of the most fabulous free shows every year.
Along with the stars of the parade, you’ll also see Santa’s elves, fairies, clowns, giant snowmen and other vibrant characters while music will be playing and performers will be singing and dancing.
Keep in mind that the parade will go on no matter what the weather. So be prepared and dress accordingly to enjoy the 2-hour event.
The 68th Santa Claus parade in Montreal will also include 2 fun floats. These floats are inspired by Canadian winter sports, including hockey, skiing, snowmobiling, and more!
You’ll also hear holiday classics performed by Annie Villeneuve and Michaël and Marie-Eve Janvier hosts the event while surrounded by children on a float dedicated to the Tree of Lights campaign for Sainte-Justine’s Hospital.
Ari Cui Cui, the beloved singing cook with her awesome sense of humor will also be on board!

The Montreal Santa Claus Parade will be televised on TVA and Yoopa on Sunday, November 18th at 5 PM. It is to be hosted by Anouk Meunier and Patrice Bélanger.
Good to Know about the Parade
The Santa Claus Parade Montreal 2018 starts at the corner of du Fort and Ste. Catherine Street at 11:00 and ends at Place des Arts, at the corner of Ste. Catherine and St. Urbain, at 1:30 PM.
If you plan to come to the parade by car, note that Sainte-Catherine street closes at 10:00 AM sharp and reopens at 1:30 PM, only when the parade finishes.
So, expect traffic and delays, but also parking challenges.
Alternatives to driving include taking the metro and exiting at one of the downtown metro stations: Atwater, Guy-Concordia, McGill, Peel, Places-des-Arts, Lucien-L’allier or Bonaventure.
There are lots of fun things to do before and after the parade!
Explore Montreal’s underground city. Go shopping or enjoy a warm cup of hot chocolate or even a meal at the different food courts.
Try out some amazing restaurants along Crescent Street or on Peel Street.
