Montreal residents in Saint-Henri are facing eviction to make room for Airbnb. How is this possible?
How are people being kicked out of their homes to give tourists a place to stay. It’s outrageous.
One tenant got a registered letter from her landlord which was actually an eviction notice.
Apparently, the landlord has gotten approval from the borough (Sud-Ouest). This is even though the city restricted evictions for Airbnb and other short-term rentals.
But, here’s the catch — this particular building is not in the newly protected zone.
Where is the rental board to stand up for the people it’s supposed to protect?
People will end up on the street if nothing is done because the rental market is tightening and fast.
