Montreal tourism is booming. And why not? We’ve got everything a tourist is looking for: a beautiful city with great nightlife, rich history, festivals and events galore, and so much more.
Now, there may be a new aerial gondola transit line between McGill University to the top of Mount Royal coming in the future. Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec (CDPQ) is proposing the gondola as a means to transport tourists to Montreal’s famous mountain in record time.
New Aerial Gondola from McGill to Mont Royal
The potential gondola line would begin at the intersection of McTavish Street and Doctor Penfield Avenue and end next to the Mount Royal Cottage. It would only take you 3 minutes each way!!!
The route would be less than 600 metres long and the gondola would have a dozen 20-passenger cabins, making the transport of up to 1,500 passengers possible each hour!
The projected $23 million construction and operation costs will be covered by CDPQ, and the gondola is set to open in fall 2020.
