Le Grand Marché de Noël 2018, aka the Christmas Market, is one of Montreal’s biggest Christmas events. Slated for what would have been its fourth edition, Le Grand Marché de Noël – a German-style Christmas market, is just not happening this year.

Why? It’s all due to sponsorship and partnership issues related to St. Denis Street roadwork. Yup, the endless roadwork around town that’s hurting business to no end is now affecting Christmas events.

Originally, The Grand Marché would have featured Santa’s Cabin, Elves’ Workshop, and Sleigh, as well as food trucks, and be held between November 30 and December 23 on St. Denis Street at the Latin Quartier.

However, the major construction happening on St. Denis Street features the construction and renovation of sewers, traffic lights, and water pipes – all of which directly affects the quality of the Christmas village experience which is a big draw of the Christmas Market.

What a shame! Lovers of The Grand Marché Christmas Market event will have to wait another year to spread the Christmas cheer.
