According to Annie Larouche, the cheerleading coach for the Montreal Alouettes, the cheerleading squad has been officially cancelled.
The Alouettes cheerleaders will not be back for the 2020 season, which starts on June 11, because of financial reasons.
Keep in mind that the Alouettes were recently bought by two Ontarians and the new owners decided to cut costs by cutting the cheerleading team, which was made up of men and women.
Will Montreal be the only pro football team without cheerleaders? No, not really.
Even some of the biggest NFL franchises no longer have cheerleaders, like the New York Giants, Green Bay Packers, Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Of the 32 NFL teams, only 26 of them have cheerleader squads.
