According to public officials, they recommend the following food safety tips:
1) before handling any fresh produce, wash hands using soap and warm water for a minimum of 20 seconds.
2) do not soak fresh produce in a sink filled with water.
3) always wash fruit and vegetables under cool running water. This rule also applies to produce you are peeling.
4) clean fruits and vegetables with firm surfaces, such as oranges, lemons, melons, cucumbers, potatoes, and carrots, using a produce scrub brush.
5) clean and sanitize countertops before and after placing produce and other foods on the surfaces. Use fresh paper towels and discard them immediately.
6) never use one cutting board for all foods. Instead, have a separate one just for produce and another one for all other foods.
7) do not eat bruised parts of fruit or vegetables, as they may contain harmful bacteria!
8) after cleaning, cutting, or peeling produce, place it on a separate clean plate.
