Construction on Montreal’s REM Begins! Great News for West Island & South Shore

The largest transportation network in Greater Montreal, the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) will begin being constructed this month. The project was launched two years ago and incorporates the ideas and suggestions of commuters, municipalities, and transport companies.

With construction beginning now, the system will begin partially functioning in the summer of 2021. The project has a hefty value of $6.3 billion and is already $300 million over budget.

Contrary to the original plans, the route from the Champlain Bridge to Central Station will not be built underground.

SNC Lavalin Grands Projets Inc., Dragados Canada Inc., Groupe Aecon Quebec Ltee, Pomerleau Inc., and EBC Inc. will band together to build the system.
