National Big Brothers Big Sisters Month Celebrated with Purple Landmarks

Big Brothers Big Sisters Month is celebrated nationally in September and Canada will honor the organization by adding purple light to a collection of famous landmarks across the country.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters, or BBBS, of Canada will launch their national campaign – ‘Imagine Who We Will Become’ this month. The initiative aims to raise funds for support and recruit mentors to help Canada’s youth.

There will be four themes throughout the month of September. The themes – be smart, be proud, be you, and be loud – are the BBBS’ organizational pillars.

Last year, BBBS held their most successful event in history, collecting 3,886 volunteer inquiries almost meeting their need for 4,000 youth mentors. Their goal is to surpass that number this year.

To help bring awareness to the event and organization, the Montreal Olympic Stadium will light up purple on September 18. The rest of the purple landmarks across Canada are:

Toronto: The CN Tower and Toronto Sign

Niagara Falls: Niagara Falls

London: London City Hall, Forks of the Thames

Vancouver: BC Place, Rogers Arena, Vancouver City Hall, and Lafarge Lake

Victoria: The Steamship Terminal

Victoria: The Royal BC Museum

Calgary: Reconciliation Bridge and Calgary Tower

Halifax: Halifax City Hall
